Fri Apr 24 2015

East Kilbride Pirates 30th Anniversary Homecoming Game (26th April)

Game 2 of the 2015 season has the Rams travelling north of the border to face the 2014 Northern Champions, the East Kilbride Pirates, who were on the wrong end of surprise defeat in their first game of the season. Here we preview the key points of the fixture:

Last Meeting

Yorkshire Rams 0 - 39 East Kilbride Pirates

10th August 2013

The Pirates eventually got to Leeds for this fixture after being stuck in traffic behind an accident on the motorway, the lack of preparation may have given the Rams cause to be enthusiastic about their chances but it wasn’t to be.

The Rams received the ball in the first half but it would be the Pirates that would take charge early on and lead 7-0 at the end of the 1st quarter. The 2nd quarter didn’t fair much better for the Rams as they conceded two more TDs before the half time whistle and were 19-0 down at the half.

EKP did not take their foot off the gas as they came out for the second half and scored early in the 3rd quarter before adding another 2 TDs to make the score 39-0 as the clock expired. The defeat was a tough one for the Rams and left their playoff hopes in the balance going into the final game.

Highlights

The match report suggests that it didn’t rain…

Ones To Watch

Yorkshire Rams - Chris Wood

Having made his first regular season start in the 25-0 victory over the Nottingham Caesars, Wood has worked hard over preseason and performed with confidence and solid execution in the first game of this season, connecting with Spencer Whybrow to finish the game off at 28-14.

East Kilbride Pirates - Robert Worboys

The Rams face another ex-player when they travel to Scotland this weekend, in the shape of Wide Receiver Robert Worboys. Worboys had plenty of good games for the Rams including a hat trick of TDs, in his last season in Rams colours, against the Lancashire Wolverines in a 22-7 victory, where he combined with QB Jacob Hardy.

We look forward to taking part in the Pirates’ 30th Anniversary game and testing ourselves against the 2014 Northern Premier Champions.

Entry is £3 to spectators and is a double header with the Pirates’ Junior team. The Junior kickoff is scheduled for 11.30am and the Senior game will kickoff at 2.30pm.
