Meet the Team - Adam Cowley

Wed Dec 24 2014

In this ‘Meet the Team’ series we will get to know some of the Yorkshire Rams playing and coaching staff, this week it’s your General Manager, Youth and Junior Coach and multi-positional powerhouse, Adam Cowley.

Name: Adam Cowley Position: Defensive Line/Fullback/Quarterback Number: #40 Height: 6’ 1” Weight: 240lbs NFL team: Pittsburgh Steelers Experience: 6 years playing for the Rams and coached Youth and Junior levels for 2 years

What is your greatest personal achievement? As a player, it would be winning Overall MVP this year for the Rams Senior team. As the award was voted for by the players, it means a lot.

As a coach, it must be taking the Youth team to the National Finals last year, a feat we’re trying to emulate this year.

What is your greatest achievement with the Rams? Taking 11 defensive players up to East Kilbride Pirates a few years ago and holding them out for most of the game. It was a great game for those defensive guys and was a privilege to be playing alongside some of those guys before they retired.

Any advice for this year’s rookies? Leave everything on the field. If you shy away, you get lost in a crowd. Come to training ready to push yourself to the limit.

How about advice for any youngsters aspiring to play senior football? Keep doing what you’re doing at training, improve your body away from the field in the gym, listen to your coaches and most of all educate yourself on the game of american football as a whole.

What’s on your pre-game soundtrack? Mixture of swing and jazz. Michael Bublé, Frank Sinatra, anyone from the Rat Pack but the only song I want to hear on a game-day is Proud Mary in the defensive changing room after the game (traditional way of celebrating a win!).

What do you eat the evening before a game? Whichever takeaway has the best deal on at the time but has to contain meat stuffed with meat, with a sprinkle of meat on top. However game-day food is important.

What would you say is your biggest inspiration? My biggest current inspiration are the kids that I coach. They inspire me to improve both as a player and coach, when they’re on the sideline, it’s a great feeling to play well for them and inspire them to progress as players
