PREVIEW: Yorkshire Rams v Lancashire Wolverines

Tomorrow sees the Rams return home after a long trip to Scotland where they’ll face local rivals, the Lancashire Wolverines in the “War of the Roses”. Here we preview the key points of the fixture:

The Rams arrived in Lancashire after crossing the Pennines and were welcomed by a monsoon which made the passing game almost impossible for most of the game.

The Wolverines took an early lead through a short run despite some strong defense from the Rams but they were unable to take advantage of some stuttering Yorkshire offense and went in at the half 6-0 up.

The weather improved slightly as the teams came out for the second half and this gave the Rams a lift which ended with a field goal from Andrew Cheeseman to make it 6-3. Having halved the deficit, the Rams pressured the home side and eventually they buckled when RB Adim Irozuru ploughed into the endzone and Yorkshire now led 9-6. The Wolverines attempted a fake punt but failed and the Rams could run the ball to take time off the clock and eventually Irozuru, once again ran the ball in and the Rams took a 15-6 lead.

That became 17-6 when, backed up on their own 1 yard line on 4th down, the Wolverines took a deliberate Safety to clear their lines. 2 late interceptions from Chris Lawton stopped any comeback and QB Jacob Hardy could kneel out the game for the victory.

Yorkshire Rams - Adam Cowley

Adam Cowley is not only just the Rams’ General Manager but you can find him on the field in, pretty much, any position in the team. He will always give it everything to win and is unlikely to want to give anything to a team coming from the other side of the Pennines.

Lancashire Wolverines - David Mead

Quarterback, David Mead will be flying high after leading his side to a victory over the East Kilbride Pirates, a team that hadn’t lost a regular season game for 3 years before that. A solid passing performance resulted in 3 passing TDs and he also ran in another to make it a successful day for both himself and the team.

We look forward to welcoming our neighbours to Leeds Corinthians for what will no doubt be a hard-fought “War of the Roses” as the Rams look to bounce back from a heavy defeat against East Kilbride against the team that shocked the league in the first game of the season against that same team.

Entry is free to spectators and is a double header with the Junior team, who are also playing the Nottingham Caesars. The Junior kickoff is scheduled for 12pm and the Senior game will kickoff at 3.30pm. We hope to see you all there.
