2015 End of Season Awards Evening

Sat Sep 19 2015

Adam Cowley and Daunté Wint-Angus between them swept the board at the Yorkshire Rams’ end-of-season awards, held on Sunday in the team’s clubhouse at Leeds Corinthians Rugby Club.

The pair are at opposite ends of the experience scale, with seven-year team stalwart Cowley named the team’s Overall MVP for the second successive year. The defensive end also retained his Ram of the Year title, adding the Coaches’ Defensive MVP award and regaining the Maniac of the Year.

As was the case in 2014, the Rookie of the Year award went to a running back as Wint-Angus succeeded Elliott Jackson. It was just one of a handful of awards for the newcomer, who has produced dominant displays since training camp and hoovered up the players’ and coaches’ Offensive MVP honours into the bargain.

Tom Greenwood muscled in on the party as he was named Offensive Lineman of the Year - honouring, in Cowley’s words, “the unsung heroes that make Daunté look good”. He and Wint-Angus were also among those ‘honoured’ as Cowley handed out a selection of joke awards beforehand, a theme which extended to the Pennine Panthers junior and youth team awards.

There was serious business to attend to there as well, though, particularly after both teams reached the play-offs in their respective leagues. Tyler Broad picked up Overall MVP and Panther of the Year at junior level, while Aslam Juma and Dai Shone Spense were offensive and defensive MVPs respectively. Nathan Robson was named Lineman of the Year, Tom Bradley was the Most Improved player, Robert Duck the Most Committed and Matthew Napier the Maniac of the Year.

At youth level, Daniel Lester emulated Broad’s double and also shared the Offensive MVP award with his brother Nathan, while Brandyn Townson was Defensive MVP. Kal Worrall-Moffatt (Lineman), Joe Beckwith (Most Committed), Lukas Venskus (Maniac) and Joseph McCartney (Most Improved) won the other main awards.

Congratulations to all our award winners, and let’s hope they can all build on their efforts next season
