Carnegie Chargers Cycle to Liberty

Sun Sep 25 2016

Congratulations to the Carnegie Chargers, the women’s American football team of Leeds Beckett University, who have spent the weekend hitting the exercise bikes hard on a team sponsored cycle of over 3,000 miles - the distance from Leeds to the Statue of Liberty

The 48-hour, 3,362-mile “Cycle to Liberty” at PureGym on Kirkstall Road is raising funds for breast cancer research as well as for the Carnegie team - and with Rams wide receiver Spencer Whybrow coaching the Chargers and his wife Kayleigh playing for them, we were of course keen to support the cause.

Spencer has been joined at various times over the weekend by Rams team-mates Bill Wakefield, Liam Austin, JP Walton, Tom White and even the perenially injured Steve Smith, along with fellow Chargers coach Nick Weston, to crank out the all-important miles.

Support has come from all over, with several of the Carnegie men’s team, the gym staff and other gym users helping out and even the rival Chester Romans throwing in 100km.

The event ran from 7pm on Friday evening until the same time on Sunday and the great new is that not only did the team reach their target, they did so with almost 600 miles to spare for an overall total of 3,960.9 miles!!

While it is too late to get on your bike, you can still help out a fantastic cause - just follow this link to donate what you can.

Great job girls!! #CAFintheSaddle
