The Rams travelled to Newcastle to face a team we’d faced 6 times in the last couple of years, the Northumberland Vikings. The game had another significance as veteran player, Charlie Gough would play his final game in a Rams shirt after a long and successful career with the team.

The Rams kicked off and the home team were forced to punt on the first drive but would take an interception to the house on the first Rams drive which gave them an early 7-0 lead. Which was followed by another one a bit later when a long pass over the top caught the Rams secondary out and the receiver did well to catch the ball and take it into the endzone.

The first quarter ended with the score at 14-0 to the Vikings but, even though the away side failed to convert on fourth down, Northumberland fumbled on the next play and the Rams would get a second chance. Unfortunately, the ball was once again turned over on downs and then on the next drive given back via another interception. There was a let-off though as the home team missed a field goal attempt.

A fourth pick of the half got the Vikings the ball back but they would turn it back over on downs and the game became a bit scrappy. The Rams attempted a field goal, as time expired in the first half but it was unsuccessful.

The second half began with the teams trading punts until the Vikings added another TD and a 2PAT to make the score 22-0. A Vikings player was ejected in the aftermath.

More punts in the fourth quarter and the teams then decided to turn the ball over to each other with more interceptions and a fumble and the game petered out.

The next game will be our last of the season as we return home to John Charles Stadium to face the Glasgow Tigers.
